Environmentally Conscious Building &
Remodeling
The new Renovation, Repair, & Painting rule
established by the Environmental Protection Agency and Kansas Department
of Health & Environment require that as of April 9, 2010, all
contractors who work on homes built before 1978 be licensed and certified
renovators. Smith Home Improvements has achieved
Certified Renovator Firm status and each of our employees are Certified
Renovators with both the EPA and the KDHE.
You may view our EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm Certificate
HERE.
You may view our KDHE Licensed
Renovation Firm Certification
HERE.
If another contractor
advises you he can give you a cheaper price by not being certified or
following KDHE regulations, he is right - but he is breaking the
law and potentially subjecting your family to unsafe lead levels in your
home. If a contractor is attempting to perform work without following
the RRP lead-safe work practice requirements, you may contact the KDHE Tip
Line at 866-865-3233 or online at
www.kshealthyhomes.org/complaint_form.htm
Whether you as a homeowner are doing the work on your project, or hiring
someone to do it for you, it is important that you educate yourself on
this issue.
